Our Philosophy

The Complete Individual

The battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton. An excellent starting point for a classroom discussion on the nature of education. However there can be no debate about the fact that sports, music, dance and theatre not only free the spirit but also develop character and leadership. At Ganges the student who aspires to be a professional competitor or performer or the one who simply enjoys participating, receives appropriate support.

Sports

The Ganges World School (TGWS) students take part in sport for enjoyment, relaxation and exercise, as an aid to their educational development and the formation of their sense of selfworth. Coaching is available seven days a week from faculty which has outstanding practitioners of their own disciplines. In competition we model ourselves on those outstanding sporting stars who are also ladies and gentlemen. Everybody who represents Ganges World School is seen as an ambassador for the school. Activities include (but are not limited to) Cricket, Football, Gymnastics, Weight Training, Track and Field, Hockey, Swimming and Diving, Table Tennis, Basket Ball etc.

Music, Theater and Dance

We encourage every student to take part in music and dance, Indian and Western, classical and popular. It is our policy to support choirs, bands and an orchestra of concert quality.

STUDENT CENTERED LEARNING Traditional education generally values two areas of activity : language and numeracy. Other talents are regarded as belonging to the area of hobbies. In other words, schools pay little attention to what children are really like, and most children's ability is under-developed or wasted.

All great minds do not think alike! : Language and numeracy are vitally important but to concentrate on them to the exclusion of all else is not even the best way of achieving high grades in English and Mathematics. Student-centered education identifies all of each individual's strengths and weaknesses and uses the former to eradicate the latter. The teacher uses the range of talents in any class in order to teach the same topic from a variety of complementary angles.

The Multiple Intelligences Tool : Far from there being only two types of ability, professor Howard Gardner of Harvard University identified eight 'intelligences': Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, Musical, Bodily-Kinaesthetic, Spatial, Naturalism, Inter-Personal and Intra-Personal.

You need creative intelligence to come up with in idea; analytical Intelligence to know if it's a good idea; and practical intelligence to sell It. There are a late of kids who have potential to be successful in their fields, but the way the system is set up, they never set the chance.
